Begin Your Journey to Wellbeing
I couldn't have asked for a better supervisor than Dr Joshi! He was extremely kind, patient and supportive, and I gained so much confidence as a practitioner while working with him. His wealth of knowledge, experience, and consideration of important factors such as race, culture, identity and more helped me approach therapy holistically and sensitively. I do not doubt that the skills I developed while working with him will serve me well as I continue my career in mental health.

Meet Dr Umesh Joshi
My name is Dr Umesh Joshi. I’m a Consultant Psychologist in the NHS and a Teaching Fellow at King’s College London. My private practice is based in Medical London by Harley Street. I believe that everyone deserves access to mental health support that truly meets their needs, delivered with empathy, thoughtfulness, and a deep understanding of each individual’s unique story.
Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. My aim is to make that process easier by offering a calm, confidential space where we can explore what’s going on for you. Whether you’re still figuring things out or already know what you’d like to work on, I’ll meet you where you are and walk alongside you as we work towards change.
With over a decade of experience across NHS and private settings, I’ve supported children, adolescents, and adults from diverse backgrounds, and I bring a respectful, client-centred approach to every session. I’m trained in Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Systemic, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies, which means we can tailor our work to suit your needs rather than fitting you into a one-size-fits-all model.
I’m registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). If you’d like to learn more about how I work, feel free to explore the “About” and “Services” pages. If you have any questions, you’re welcome to contact me via the form on the “Contact” page.

Practice Areas
Please see below a summary of what I can offer. If you would like more information about my areas of expertise and fees, please click "About". For more details about what is listed below, please click on "Services".
01
Initial Assessment/First Appointment
An assessment allows us to understand one another better. It allows me to get to know you, some of your experiences; what you need from accessing the service and what I might do to help. It also allows you to learn how I work; my style, and if you think we will work well together. An initial assessment or consultation is necessary for anyone who may require our services before undertaking any further work.
02
Psychological Therapy
There are different types of counselling and therapy available out there. Different people access counselling for different reasons. It's my job to work with you to understand what is going on for you, and how I can work best to meet your needs. I have trained in different types of therapies. I take an integrative approach, which means I combine techniques or adapt them based on what may work best with you. I offer a safe and confidential space for you to explore and work on your difficulties.
03
Working with Children and Young People
Children and young people often need a different approach to adults. Having worked with children and young people in the NHS, educational settings and within the charity sector, I have experience working with a range of children and young people; from diverse backgrounds and with a diverse range of difficulties.
04
Research
Having completed my doctoral research project on cultural competency in healthcare, and published research on cognitive assessments in substance misuse services, I have suitable academic and research experience to collaborate on and inform research supervision and development.
05
Training and Workshops
I offer workshops and training to professionals from different backgrounds; including psychology, healthcare, therapy, educational settings, private and public sector services and organisations.
06
Clinical Supervision
If you're looking for a clinical supervisor, I have experience in supervising qualified professionals and trainees. I have worked with psychologists (Counselling and Clinical, including trainees), as well as counsellors, psychotherapists, CBT practitioners and professionals who take a more creative approach in their work, such as art therapists.
